Annual General Meeting of the Wind Orchestra
An evening in a major key - entirely without instruments
When the Wind Orchestra meets for its annual general meeting, it's a bit like a concert without instruments – but with just as much excitement. Our chairman, Mayor Wolfgang Hermann, opened the evening promptly and welcomed those present with his usual aplomb. The familiar three-part structure of reports followed: Secretary Christoph Räpple reviewed the past year (including a few anecdotes), youth representative Leni Breig gave an enthusiastic report on the junior members, and treasurer Matthias Lauble presented the financial figures – which, thankfully, showed more harmony than dissonance.
The report by conductor Raphael Janz was then listened to with particular attention. Between a musical review and a look ahead, it became clear that the Wind Orchestra is not only well-positioned but also has ambitious plans for the future. A true highlight of the evening was the recognition of those with particularly diligent rehearsal attendance. This demonstrated that practice not only makes perfect but also earns public applause. The following members were honored: Melanie Lauble, Verena Czyzewski, Michael Joos, Rudi Krämer, and Johannes Spinner.
Loyalty to the town band was also recognized. The following members were honored for 10 years of membership: Stefanie Burkhardt, Mona Franz, Salome Keil, Celina Peter, Sophie Portillo Scheer, Annalena Spinner. For an impressive 30 years of active service to the town band: Melanie Lauble. A very special moment followed during the award ceremony for 25 years of membership by the Kinzigtal Music Association, presented by Vice President Klaus Schmid. Annica Schmid was honored – and as it turned out, the two share more than just a love of music: the same last name, the saxophone as their instrument, and the position of music librarian – rarely have honoree and presenter been such a perfect match.
The Wind Orchestra also welcomed new members – a wonderful sign that the community is growing and that music continues to inspire people: Amelie Schneider and Lena Weitschies (both flute) were presented with a copy of the band's bylaws on this occasion. Since no elections were scheduled this year, Chairman Reinhard Meyer was able to close the meeting quickly and without extension after just over an hour – much to the delight of everyone who was already looking forward to the social gathering. And so the evening ended where musicians are known to feel most at home: in good company, with good conversation and the certainty of being part of a vibrant community.
