Melodies in the air and beer in the mug
A trip of the Hausach Wind Orchestra to Erding (May 2024)
With a loud fanfare and a crescendo of anticipation, the Hausach Wind Orchestra‘s three-day trip to Erding, Bavaria, began on a sunny Ascension Day. At 7:30 a.m. sharp, the two-story bistro bus set off into the Bavarian cosiness with 45 adventure-hungry musicians on board. The trip organizers had put in a lot of effort, preparing a breakfast bag for everyone for the long journey, along with a credit-card-sized program for their wallets. This included a meticulously planned program and all the information needed to find their way safely back to the hotel.
Upon arriving in Erding, the first highlight awaited us: a tour of the famous Erdinger Brewery. Guided by an eloquent and expert brewmaster, we learned all about the art of brewing beer. But the best was yet to come: tasting the diverse range of Erdinger beer specialties! With a celebratory toast, we toasted life and music, accompanied by a hearty snack of white sausages, pretzels, and Obazda (traditional Bavarian salami). In the evening, the musicians gathered at a characteristic Bavarian restaurant to fortify themselves with typical regional dishes and enjoy a convivial chat. The atmosphere was lively, and some didn't return home or to their hotels until early in the morning.
The next day, a visit to Munich Airport was scheduled. There, we were given a fascinating insight into the airport's operations and learned a lot about the processes and challenges of an international airport. Some of us also opted for an optional visit to Therme Erding, the largest thermal spa in Europe. There, we could relax, enjoy the various pools and saunas, and simply unwind. In the evening, it was time for the second highlight of our trip: a concert at the Erding Spring Festival. With our instruments in hand and smiles on our faces, we took the stage and thrilled the audience with an atmospheric musical program.
With many new memories in our luggage and a strengthened sense of solidarity within the orchestra, we set off home the next day. Our trip to Erding was not only musically inspiring, but also a wonderful intergenerational experience that brought us all closer together. And who knows, maybe we'll be planning the next adventure soon!
